4th Quarter:

Sixth Grade Religion:

During the 4th quarter we will focus on Lent as part of our preparation period for Easter.  We will also look at the Triduum to learn that during the Easter season we celebrate our new life in Christ and the coming of the Holy Spirit.  The students will also learn about the coming of the Holy Spirit and the growth of the Church.  The 6th grade will learn about the way the Church continues the ministry of Jesus, and about the four marks, or essential features, of the Church.  We will also focus on the Bible as the written record of God’s revelation; that we are called to be faithful to God and one another; and that Catholic social teaching calls us to work for justice and peace as Jesus did.

Sixth grade Ancient Civilization:

We will take a look at the interactions between Europeans, Africans, and Native Americans.  The students will study the changes in Asia from the late 1300’s – 1600’s.  We will also look at the rise of the Muslim, Ottoman, and Mogul Empires.

Seventh Grade Religion:

During the 4th quarter we will learn to internalize ways we keep the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th commandments.  We will explore the ways we can live empowered by forgiveness and peace, and we will discover ways we can overcome pressure from peers and others in society and lead loving, chaste lives.  The students will discover ways they can reach out to the poor, and ways that Christians live in truth.  We will explore the importance of leading a virtuous life and ways we can reach our spiritual goals.

Seventh Grade Geography:

We will be studying Eastern Europe, Russia and the Independent Republics.  Students will also study Southwest Asia and North Africa, Africa south of the Sahara, and Australia, Oceana and Antarctica.

Eighth Grade Religion:

During the quarter we will discuss the importance of our full participation in the Mass, and learn a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Sacraments of Initiation.  We will deepen our appreciation of the parish church building as a symbol of Catholic life and worship.  The students will recall the meaning of the liturgical year, the Lord’s Day and the Triduum.  They will also recall and appreciate the seasons of the Church year and our participation in them.  We also hope to examine the communal rite of Reconciliation and the Anointing of the Sick.

Eighth Grade U.S. History:

The 8th grade will take the Illinois Constitution test.   Once the Constitution tests are finished we will study the Great Depression, World War II, and the Cold War Era.  We will also look at America in the 50’s, the Civil Rights Era, and Vietnam.
