Dear Parents,
Homework is an effective means of increasing school learning. It is a way of reinforcing and enriching the concepts that we learn in school each day. When assignments are completed at home, more class time is available for discussions, group work, and extension activities. It also gives your child a chance to establish independent study habits and self-discipline.
I will be assigning approximately 20 minutes or less of homework each week night. If your child does not finish his or her work in class that day this time may increase.
Your child will be bringing home a daily assignment book, which the child completes. PLEASE INITIAL or SIGN IT EACH DAY. This also serves as a communication tool. If something makes it impossible for your child to complete his/her work some evening just write me a note.
Below I have listed some tips that can help to make homework more meaningful.
* Select a time with your child, which will be set-aside for doing homework. Your child may want to unwind and play right after school or do his/her homework right after school.
*Provide a place for your child to do his/her homework. Get your child in the habit of doing his homework away from distractions.
*Make it clear to your child that homework is his/her responsibility. However, be sure that your child also knows that you’re there to help if needed.
*Ask your child to show you the work when it is completed. Look it over for completeness and neatness.
*Help your child get in the habit of putting completed assignments back in his/her M.O.O.S.E. book, then in their backpack. This helps to avoid leaving homework at home during rushes out the door the next morning.
As a parent, it is important to take an active role in your child’s homework . Show an interest in what your child does and work with me to make this a successful year for your child. Thank you for helping get your child into the homework habit.
If you have any questions you can call me at 274-2994.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kluge
